Aliva Multigrain Waves

These chip-like snacks are made of cereal products such as corn, rice and whole wheat and prima facie it appears to be healthy. Parent company Pepsico has made some bold claims about this product — high in fibre and high in protein. This claim is blatant false advertising — there is nothing in this product that makes it either high in either protein or fibre.

There are no trans fats and the product seems harmless. However plenty of oil that has gone into making these chips but which oil is not specified. The term “Trans-fat free” means where trans-fat is less than 0.2 g per serving of food. The accepted serving size norm for namkeen is considered as 30g.

The Aliva pack is 50 grams so there is at least .3grams of trans fat in the product. Sneaky tricks by the food industry to make you think you are eating healthy.

Also, don’t forget the artificial flavouring and preservatives.

Bottom Line: Eat these chips as you would any other junk food — sparingly and knowingly.
